Your clients return to therapy, weekly, when you know this one thing

Nervous System Therapy | Trauma Training for Therapists

This is an image from "Body Worlds" in Sydney. It's an exhibition of real human bodies, preserved by plastination. This image speaks a thousand words.

"You don't have many problems; you have one problem, a nervous system problem."

This is what Dr. Janina Fischer says in many of her trainings. If you don't yet have her books, go grab them now.

Why am I sharing this sentence above?
Because our clients come in frazzled, often with many problems they are facing in their life. They will tell you about all of them, and you may be tempted to tend to all of them. But if you do, you'll be missing the point. They don't need that- they need you to dive into the core of their struggle; a nervous system dysregulation.

Their nerves are shot, worn out or numb.
We are "Nervous System Helpers".
We listen in to what is causing disarray in their mind and bodies. And we provide support and tailored treatment that gives profound relief.

This offers simplicity and hope to our clients.
When you say in a calm voice, "You have just one issue, and we are working on it right now", they can exhale.

And, what's even better is that you can exhale, too.
You aren't meant to spin your wheels in therapy. You do your best work when you're calm, present and focused on giving them the Missing Experience they walk around the world looking to fill. This is a term from Ron Kurz, Hakomi Therapy Founder.

This can be safety to feel their feelings, this can be learning that their insecure attachment is simply a response to their environment, or that though life feels dark now, you are working on lessening the feeling of darkness as they process their pains with you.

If you use EMDR, Somatic, IFS or some other therapy method, that's entirely up to you.

You know what you're doing clinically. You've got training and you're good at the relational aspect.

Just hold this in mind- share it with your clients and offer an aligned treatment plan [and therapy experience] to heal their nervous system.

That's what keeps clients coming back. Your clarity, your calm and you being their steady guide in this healing journey.

Use this sentence in your next session and let me know how it goes!
Warmly,
Esther
